I have of late found myself drawn to listening to Pink Floyd's final album, The Endless River, last thing at night. A sublime and ultra chilled-out affair, this mainly instrumental LP is not only perfect for relaxation, even perhaps meditation if that's your bag, but also an incredibly emotive yet beautifully subtle final journey through the signature Floyd sound.
Anyway, last night during one such listening session I felt compelled to write a few lines, and such is the universal appeal of this amazing band I have decided to share them with you.
Pink Floyd are worlds apart from the Jungle/DnB-rich aural diet I usually feast upon, but they are such massively influential artists for me that it makes perfect sense that I should want to write about them. So, enjoy this short poem inspired by 'The Endless River', and no doubt expect a future article or two from me about my favourite band...
One Legacy
The legacy of one band’s music
That spans nearly five decades
Captivates the very essence
Of the power that music holds over us.
The passage of time blurs
Into utter insignificance
Against the backdrop of what
Those five souls have achieved.
These songs are the inheritance
We pass dutifully down generations
These words of timeless relevance
Wrapped in perfect melodic elegance.
The endless river, onward flowing,
Upon which we've always been floating,
Reaches on into the distant horizon
As we ebb and flow with random precision.
